Unit 5 - Fashion

Fashion is important for me, but I can't follow it.
I'm very interested in technology.

Everyday clothes should be comfortable. They shouldn't be expensive because they get old and you will have to buy new ones all the time. They have to be nice too because your friends will see you in your everyday clothes.

I don't agree that men are better in designing because more women follow the fashion than men. Women can desing women's clothes easier.
Many young girls want to be models because models are popular. They are famous too.

I can't wear these shoes because they are too small.
"Bu ayakkabıları giyemem, çünkü onlar çok küçük."Bu cümlelerde "too" kelimesi kullanılarak, ayakkabıların "aşırı" küçük olduğu vurgulanmış. Ayakkabılar aşırı küçük olduğu için giyemiyorum.

She can't drink this water because it's too cold.
I can't touch this iron because it's too hot.
We can't drive fast because there are too many cars in the street.

I can't follow the fashion closely, but I think pink is fashionable this year. Orange was fashionable last year, so it should be out this year.
Loose clothing is fashionable. Regular fit is unfashionable.

Daha önce "comperative" ile iki şey içinden üstün olanı göstermeyi öğrenmiştik. Şimdi ise bir grup içindeki "en üstün" olanı göstermeyi öğreneceğiz. Bunun için kullandığımız yönteme "superlative" denir. İkiden fazla şeyi karşılaştırıyorsak, içlerinden birini "en üstün" olarak seçebiliriz. İngilizce konuşurken comperative ve superlative kullanımlarını sık sık pratik yapmalıyız.
İzmir is crowded. Ankara is crowded too. İstanbul is more crowded than İzmir and Ankara.
İstanbul is the most crowded of all.

Genellikle, comperative yapmak için sıfata "-er" eklenir, superlative yapmak için de "-est" eklenir. Uzun kelimelere ise, ek koymak yerine comperative yapmak için için önlerine "more", superlative yapmak için de "most" eklenir.
Şimdi en sık kullanılan sıfatların comperative ve superlative hallerini tablomuzda gösterelim.

There is a fashion in technology but it is different than fashion in clothes.
For example, I bought my computer last year. It was fashionable then. But now, there are newer models and my computer is unfashionable now. Everybody wants to buy the new one.

MP3 players are the latest technology. Casette players and cd players are unfashionable now. They are also big and heavy. MP3 players are the lightest of all. That's why, MP3 players are my favourite.

You can store a lot of information in a laptop. They are portable too. You can carry them in your bag. They look very good too.

You can store most information in a desktop computer because their memories are larger than laptops.
You can listen to music with all of these.
